Prelude

Welcome

Call To Worship

From the very first book of our scriptures comes a story about love and forgiveness.
And this love and forgiveness comes from a deep deep sense of pain.

Joseph, the man who saves Egypt from famine,
is hated simply for being special to his father.
He is mistreated and thrown into a pit and sold into slavery.
His brothers, his family, betray him.

Joseph, now a powerful man in a powerful country,
could have completely ruined his brothers but he didn’t.
He could have avenged all the deeds that separated him from his homeland.
But he didn’t.

Joseph chooses love, and forgiveness.
This is the story God tells over and over and over again.

Love is the fuel that reconciles us to each other.
Love is the spark that ignites forgiveness.
God is love and it is this power we worship.

We worship the God of love because we need to her it over and over again.
We stand on the promises of God’s love to heal even the deepest wounds.

Hymn: Standing on the promises

Standing on the promises of Christ my King
Through eternal ages let his praises ring
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus: Standing, standing
Standing on the promises of God my Saviour
Standing, standing
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God. Chorus

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God. Chorus

Standing on the promises, I cannot fall
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Saviour as my all in all
Standing on the promises of God. Chorus

Hymn: Leaning on the everlasting arms

What a fellowship, what a joy divine
Leaning on the everlasting arms
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

What have I to dread, what have I to fear
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms
