Pastoral Care Training Participants Graduate

Pictured are some of the recent graduates of the Ottawa Pastoral Care Training Program who completed the ten session course led by Joyce Hamlin and held at Bethel-St. Andrew’s.

Representatives from Bethel-St. Andrews, including Rev. Steve Moore; St. George’s Fitzroy and St. Thomas Woodlawn Anglican Parish, including Rev. Hilary Murray; and Emmanuel Anglican Church in Arnprior, including Rev. Cathy McCaig, took part in the informative and, at times, intense training regimen.

The course was established in the 1970’s by the Anglican Church. The training includes:

Introduction to Pastoral Care
Active Listening
Spiritual Needs and Pastoral Identity
Grief Through Losses
Ministry With the Dying
Visiting in Hospitals, Institutions, Homes
The Transitioning Years
Sharing and Learning
Care for the Caregiver and Pastoral Care Teams
Celebrating Our Community and Our Call

Rev. Steve is planning a follow up meeting in June – “to ‘check in’, talk about our learnings from the training, take our bearings and discuss how we see ourselves proceeding. This will be a team effort, so the natural way to begin is to deliberate some together on how our pastoral care ministry will be implemented.”
